I love Beth Moore. L-O-V-E her! I am in the midst of The Patriarchs right now and it is a phenomenal study. All of her studies are fabulous. I discovered today, thanks to BooMama (visit her site–it is awesome!) that Beth has a blog!! Too fun!

Tearful Tuesday

Oh the drama of a four-year-old girl. My daughter loves animals, specifically our two cats, Simba and Orion. She loves them so much that at least hourly, she showers them with affection. This typically involves ~~tackling~~ picking them up, ~~squeezing~~ hugging them, ~~mauling~~ smooching them and any other way she can find at that moment to show her affection. Now, as you can imagine, the kitties are not real fond of this. Orion, the young one, tolerates it. Simba, the old guy, does not. She has been told I can’t tell you how many times, not to bug Simba. But, alas, she does know better than mama and chooses not to listen. Today, she was ~~bugging~~ loving on Simba and he returned the favor in the form of a nip to her nose. She does have a visible scratch, but you would have thought he bit her nose clean off! She ran to the bathroom screaming and sobbing and when I asked what was the matter, she yells, “I don’t want to talk about it” and shuts the door. (Aaah, the realization that mom does at times know what she is talking about. ) So she finally fesses up and we clean up the scratch and she promptly goes to her room, turns on a movie, climbs into bed with a cold compress pressed to her nose, lays back, puts up her feet and says, “I need to rest.” Sigh.

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for prayer. That God listens to me whenever I need to talk to Him, and that has been a lot this week!
I am thankful for His friendship. That He continues to welcome me even though I so don’t deserve it.
I am thankful for the worship team I am a part of. That even when we rehearse, it isn’t about notes or perfection, it is about worship.
I am thankful for my brother. He has been on my mind a lot lately. You know how you have those select few people in your life who mean so much to you, you can’t even put it into words? That’s my brother.
I am thankful for my family. Nothing warms my heart more than watching my husband with our children.
I am thankful for coffee. I know its petty, but I love the stuff!

The tooth fairy

My son lost his second tooth last night. He lost his first tooth at grandma’s house a few months back and since we were staying the night there, the tooth fairy had to visit there. Let me just tell you, when she comes to grandma’s house, she is quite generous! When I went to bed that night, there was 4 quarters in the dish. When he woke up, he came running into our room with the four quarters and… a ten dollar bill! (Thanks, Grandma) I don’t have to tell you that this set quite a precedence! Now, the “tooth fairy” did leave a note saying that because it was his first tooth that it was special and that he shouldn’t expect this much each time. All the same when I told him last night that we had to set the tooth out for the tooth fairy, he said..

“I hope I get a thousand dollars!”

Questions, questions…

My daughter is the queen of questions. Her little mind goes a hundred miles an hour and she loves to inquire about, well, pretty much anything. Today, while we were driving around town running errands, we were having a nice little chat about the world around us. (Well, as nice as you can have yelling from the front of a minivan to the way back seat.) In the midst of this nice little chat about the trees and such, she pops up with one of those questions. You know the ones. Those questions their curious little minds come up with that stop you dead in your tracks, fumbling for the right words. Today it was…

“Mom, what’s a soul?”

May I remind you that I have to yell for her to hear me in the back of the vehicle? Not the best environment for such a chat. So I try to summarize as well as possible that God gave people a soul and that is what makes us so very special and that our souls in a way connect us to God. This seemed to work and she proceeded to ask about different parts of the body. What’s a heart do? This I can handle. What are bones for? No problem. Then the world came to a second screeching halt.

“Mom, does death smell bad?”

Oh dear. Now, I have a background in Hospice so I could explain several details about the dying process, but I’m pretty sure it is all stuff a four year old doesn’t need to know. So to buy myself some time to form a good answer I say, “What, honey?” To which she responds somewhat irritated, “Does gas smell bad?” Oh thank goodness. We had just passed a gas station! I am so glad I asked her to repeat herself and didn’t launch into a discussion on death! I can just picture her deer-in-the-headlight eyes after that. Pretty sure she would have been convinced mom had finally gone off the deep end!

Daughter: How did you get the track to go like that?

Son: (exasperated sigh) Sometimes, you don’t get to know.

Daughter: But how did you get it like that?

Son: (another sigh) I’m an artist. No… I’m a “cre-at-or.”

First Birthday, First Steps

My baby is one. Despite my wishes, he went and had a birthday. This year has flown by so fast, I can hardly believe it. It’s almost hard to remember him being a tiny little baby, yet it doesn’t seem that long ago, if that makes any sense. I’m trying so hard to relish every second of babyhood with him. I don’t know if he is our last child, but he could very well be, so I want to cherish every moment I can!

We had fun celebrating his big day and I do think he liked his cake.

Now, he has been pulling himself up on the furniture for quite awhile now and he cruises around if he has something to hold on to, but we were still waiting for those precious first steps. At one point, on his birthday, I walked into our living room from the kitchen to find him standing, in the middle of the room, (nothing to hold onto there) and he was looking down and he took a step. I, of course, gasped in amazement and delight, at which point he looked up, got a very guilty-looking grin on his face and immediately sat down. A feeling of shock and utter betrayal came over me. I do believe he has been putting us on for awhile! I think, when we have had our backs turned, he has been walking. Practicing up, maybe, for the big show. I know what you’re thinking. He is one, he couldn’t possibly have these devious scheming abilities, but I’m telling you. He’s sneaky like that. So we proceeded to have him walk between the two of us, and he took close to ten steps before dropping to his knees to take off crawling. TEN STEPS. Pretty sure he’s been practicing! Sneaky little devil.

Thankful Thursday

I have decided that, in line with my goal to be more grateful this year, I am going to start Thankful Thursdays! This, like most other cool things I do, is not my original idea. I am totally benefiting from someone else’s grand idea. (Feel free to click on the Thankful Thursday icon to be directed to a great blog entitled, “Sting My Heart,” there’s some great stuff there.) Now, onto my inaugural entry…

Things I am thankful for this week.

I am grateful for my father-in-law’s recovery. Thank God for modern medical technology and skilled physicians and nurses who know exactly what to do in a crisis situation!
I am so grateful for my son’s school. He just came home and he is so happy. He has the best teacher who is so encouraging and fun. He is learning so much and just loves school!
I am so thankful for MOPS! We had a meeting yesterday and it is such a great group of women. I always walk away with a warm heart and a smile on my face.
I am grateful for this whole world of blogs that I am discovering more and more everyday. In one sitting I can read things that make me cry or laugh until my sides hurt. There are so many talented writers out there with such great things to share.
I am thankful for a husband who isn’t upset when I’ve gotten next to nothing done in a day because I spent so much time reading blogs!
Finally, I am so grateful for my baby boy who celebrates his first birthday tomorrow. He has brought immeasurable joy to my life over this past year and I could never find the words to say a proper “Thank you” to God for him!
